Recently, I had the opportunity to stay at The Funny Lion – the newest and most highly rated hotel on Tripadvisor in El Nido, Palawan. A weekend stay was organized for lifestyle content creators to kick off the summer season, and in this review, I will be sharing my experience with The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel, covering its facilities, food, and customer service.

The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel enjoys a prime location, conveniently situated in the town proper. Its ideal proximity to the airport, beach, restaurants, shops, and other establishments makes it highly accessible, only a 10-15 minute drive away.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed in the spacious and inviting lobby. The check-in process was efficient, and we were greeted with a refreshing welcome drink, setting a positive tone for our stay. The staff assisted us with our luggage and escorted us to our rooms.
Accommodation
The hotel offers two types of rooms: King and Cub. I stayed in a Cub room (room 133) featuring two single beds, ideal for companions or travel buddies. Positioned on the 3rd floor of adjacent buildings, my room included a balcony with a delightful view of the courtyard pool.
The Cub room, spanning 26 sqm, is equipped with essential amenities including air-conditioning, cable TV, a phone, a mini-refrigerator, and a coffee and tea-making facility. Additionally, the mini fridge came stocked with complimentary refreshing fruit juice and a small jar of fresh fruits.
Maintaining the hotel’s luxurious ambience, the Cub room featured a lavish bathroom with complete amenities, including a hot and cold rain shower, a hair dryer, and refillable organic shampoo and body wash. For added security, an in-room safe was provided.
For those requiring internet access, complimentary Wi-Fi with reliable 5mbps speed was available. The room also featured a work desk with two power outlets, facilitating efficient work between tours and activities.
As the hotel is relatively new, guests can expect a fresh, clean, and well-maintained room.
Dining
Good food is essential for a fulfilling vacation, and The Funny Lion El Nido ensured an impressive breakfast spread catering to diverse preferences. Local delicacies, international flavors, fruits, salads, and bread selections were on offer.
On the second day, I availed of the room service for breakfast, which pleasantly surprised me with generous portions and a diverse selection of high-quality food. The freshness of the food was noteworthy, and the daily afternoon popsicles at the poolside added to the delightful experience.

Swimming Pool
For those seeking relaxation, the hotel features a swimming pool offering a refreshing dip and picturesque photo opportunities. Nestled between the two adjacent buildings, the pool is surrounded by tropical greenery, creating a tropical ambiance and is equipped with lounge chairs.
Adjacent to the Hunt Restaurant, guests can enjoy a refreshing drink while lounging by the pool. The pool operates daily from 9 am to 6 pm.
Sea Tree Spa (Opening Soon)
Aside from luxury amenities, The Funny Lion Hotel also plans to introduce the Sea Tree Spa, offering a range of exclusive services focused on relaxation, rejuvenation, and wellness. The spa will provide authentic Filipino massage therapies, romantic bathing rituals, and beauty treatments.
Papaya Beach
Guests have complimentary access to the exquisite Papaya Beach, featuring pristine white sands and crystal-clear blue waters, lined with palm trees and lush greenery. This secluded beach is an ideal spot for relaxation and unwinding.
Despite rainy weather upon our arrival, we eventually had the chance to swim and enjoy this serene beach.
Other Services
The hotel offers 24-hour front desk service and luggage storage, in addition to room service, housekeeping, and turndown services, allowing guests to fully relax and enjoy their stay without any worries.
For a unique dining experience in a secluded setting, the hotel arranges a picninc by the beach at Papaya Island. The hotel staff, known for going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant vacation, is another noteworthy aspect. In terms of customer service, The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel truly excels.
Departure
Leaving the resort on the final day proved to be the most challenging part of our stay. Similar to its sister resorts, The Funny Lion El Nido thrives on its exceptional staff. After a 3-night stay, the hospitality and warmth of the staff made the hotel feel like a home away from home.
Amidst other equally impressive properties in the area, this resort stands out due to its staff’s dedication to meeting guests’ needs and exceeding expectations.
Upon departure, the entire staff bid us farewell, evoking a sense of familiarity reminiscent of family reunions from my hometown. The iconic design of the building added to the relaxing and captivating atmosphere, with high ceilings, open spaces, and well-appointed rooms exuding a homely vibe. Not to forget the stylish pool area contributing to the tropical ambiance. I look forward to returning to El Nido and staying at this hotel.
