A heartwarming follow-up to the famous PLDT ad ‘Suportahan Ta Ka’
Expressing love results in receiving love. In today’s world where young individuals have numerous career options, a parent’s support holds immense value as their children embark on their own journeys.
PLDT has always conveyed the message of open and affectionate communication. Remember the unforgettable tagline “Suportahan Ta Ka” from the 2000s TV ad? It’s being brought back for PLDT’s 95th anniversary campaign.
In the original Suportahan Ta Ka TV ad created by Ace Saatchi & Saatchi, actor and model Christian Vasquez portrayed a young medical student seeking his father’s permission to switch his major to Fine Arts. As he shared his plans, his doctor father responded, “Kung saan ka masaya ti, suportahan ta ka [Wherever you find happiness, I’ll support you!].” This particular line quickly became a hit in the 2000s.
Twenty-two years since the TV commercial aired, Christian Vasquez returns with a real-life story that serves as a heartwarming sequel to the iconic ad. Now a father of two, Christian finds himself in a similar situation with his eldest son. In PLDT’s 95th anniversary video, Christian shares his own personal journey.
The video depicts Christian’s actual son, Jason (who also stars in the video), who is preparing for the engineering board exam while working at an IT company. In the video, Jason appears stressed and fatigued while studying for his board exam. During an online video call, Jason musters the courage to confide in his father Christian about his intention to forgo the board exams and continue with his IT job.
Christian expresses disbelief and attempts to motivate Jason to take the exam as it would create more opportunities for him as an engineer. Just as he is about to reprimand his son, he suddenly recalls the lesson he learned from his own experience 22 years ago — that he must also support his son’s dreams.
By the end of the video, Christian emphatically expresses his support for his son’s decision. From his father’s “Suportahan ta ka,” Christian utters the words “Palangga Ta Ka,” (which means “I love you”), showcasing his unconditional love and support for his son.
Parents may not always align with their children’s choices, but ultimately, love and meaningful communication triumph over doubt. In the video campaign, PLDT emphasizes its message of fostering meaningful connections across generations. From grandparents to parents and their own children, PLDT facilitates meaningful connections even when they are physically distant. Even in instances when family members may not agree with your decisions — love prevails.
On its 95th anniversary, PLDT reminds families of this powerful message and the significance of love, respect, and compassion in connecting with each other.
